Welcome to Scottsville!

Join us for the James River Association’s Grand Opening of our new field office in Scottsville, Virginia!

This office will serve as homebase for Anne Marie Roberts, Middle James Restoration Manager, whose primary focus will be creating a vegetated stream buffer program for landowners in Albemarle, Amherst, Buckingham, Cumberland, Fluvanna, Goochland, Nelson, and Powhatan counties of the middle James River basin. Diverse and healthy vegetated stream buffers play a large role in pollution reduction, stream health, and provide vital wildlife habitat.

Open House Exhibit

The James River Association will be sharing office space with Erin Root from Take Root Design Studio, LLC. We each have a common goal of creating a space that celebrates our rivers, our landscapes, and our community through rotating exhibits and dialogue. Our combined space will feature exhibits throughout the year. Stop by and view the current exhibit “Mineral Medium”, featuring works by Katherine Jenkins. Katherine Jenkins is an assistant professor of landscape architecture at The Ohio State University and cofounder of the interdisciplinary design-research group, Present Practice. Her research applies theory, techniques, and media from contemporary art to the analysis and design of landscapes. Air and water entering abandoned coal mines in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania mix with pyrite exposed in the mineshafts and oxidize the iron found therein. When this acidic rust bleeds into adjacent streams it coats their beds in a thick layer of orange ochre known locally as yellow boy. The displacement and transformation of this vibrant mineral is the subject of this series of drawings.
