JRA is currently working on a sturgeon restoration project to work on bringing the population of sturgeon back to historic levels. We also support work being done to restore underwater grass, oysters and other shellfish, and various other species of fish back to historic population and health levels. The overall goal is “More Fish in the James!” Through the Watershed Restoration program, JRA works to restore the health of the land that drains into the James by encouraging Best Management Practices (BMP’s). This may include working with landowners on conservation easements, planting riparian buffers, working with farmers on agricultural practices, and promoting responsible land use and development. |
